Ecosystem Services –
What are they and what are they for?
Ecosystem services can be defined as positive externalities (in an economic sense, but also in a cultural sense, of environmental support, etc.) produced by a healthy functioning ecosystem. As examples of ecosystem services, we can mention the fire prevention that comes from the execution of Fuel Management Strips by energy distribution companies or the carbon sequestration resulting from an agricultural/forest plantation.
